Arthur Honored as Most Improved School

On Tuesday, the School District released the 2015-16 School Progress Reports (SPR), which evaluate all District and charter schools in the city. The SPR combines a number of metrics around academic achievement, student growth, and school climate to produce an overall school score.

Chester Arthur's overall score improved 34 percentage points in just one year, more than any other K-8 school in the entire city! Principal Kim Newman and several teachers were honored at an event with Superintendent Hite for this outstanding achievement.

Principal Newman cites the tremendous work of Arthur's teachers over the past several years as the critical factor in this achievement. As a Children's Literacy Initiative model school, Arthur's elementary teachers have helped increase the percent of elementary students reading on grade level while the upper elementary and middle school teachers have adopted an ambitious project-based approach as part of Arthur's Redesign Initiative.

Congratulations to the staff and of course, the students and families of Arthur. Your village is so proud of you!
